Sweettape Enterprise (M) Sdn Bhd, is one
of Southeast Asia's leading producers of adhesive
and non-adhesive tapes and decorative polypropylene
ribbons.
Since the introduction of our products in 1977,
we played a major role in the industry by leading
the way in product innovation and development.
Sweettape is the first and still remain
Sweettape the only manufacturer in the
world to use rubber latex adhesives for all our
adhesive tapes. Rubber based adhesives not only
provide a powerful bond but also extremely environmentally
friendly as well. In the decorative ribbons, Sweettape
still the sole manufacturer of decorative polypropylene
ribbons and bows in Malaysia.
Not content to rest on our laurels and also because
of the public's faith and trust in our products,
Sweettape formulated a clear path into
the next millennium.

The
Company set off its corporate mission
in 1977 in a rather humble beginning.
Since its inception, the Company has gone
through substantive transformation and
it now represents among the leading manufacturers
of adhesive tapes and ribbon products
in Asia. The experience of our growth
has been both turbulent and challenging,
exacting a heavy price on our initial
limited resources and infrastructure.
Our existence today largely reflects the
strengths of our will, determination and
capacity of hardwork.
The Company started off as a trading entity,
with a turnover of a few million ringgit
annually. Sweettape gradually expanded
into contract packing and import-based
distribution activities. In the subsequent
phases of our growth, we successfully
taps on its own our R&D efforts and
were able to organise the requisite resources
of people skills, manufacturing knowledge
and marketing strategy for its very own
advent into direct manufacturing. By 1995,
the Company had already achieved a position
of leadership and recognition for quality
in the ribbons and adhesive tapes industry
in Malaysia.

In the light of Sweettape expanding turnover
and export activity and its consequent demands
on its manufacturing resources, Sweettape
Company embarked on a major expansion in 1995.
The cornerstone of the expansion programme was
the opening of our own factory building with a
build-up space of about 100,000 sq. feet. Apart
from signifying our emergence into a major industrial
entity, the expansion helped propel the Company
into the ranks of among the leading industry players
in Asia. The new plant employs state-of-the-art
manufacturing technology and our processes and
quality standards matches the best in the industry.
In early 1999, the company equipped the manufacturing
assets of a leading tape producer for the electronics
industry in Singapore and this has considerable
enhanced the technical and product capability
of the company. With this acquisition, the company
is capable of producing specially products as
sequencer tapes, belting tapes, carrier tapes,
heat-activated tapes. Also in the pipeline are
fresh investment for an additional two units of
fully auto advanced coating line to further expand
the plant production capacity. Sweettape
now have both the technology and scale of capacity
to meet the most rigorous of customer demands
in the products first of adhesive tape and ribbons.
Among our notable achievements in the 1990s has
been the invention of the natural emulsion base
base adhesive, which is 100% odorless and environment-friendly.
The adhesive rubber marks the fruition of almost
4 years of research collaboration with the National
Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia and it is
now successfully used by the Company to produce
the only environment-friendly masking tape in
the world. Achievements as this bear testimony
to the capabilities and resourcefulness of not
only our Company but also all Malaysians in general.

The rapid pace of globalisation, the steady dismantling
of barriers of protectionism in many parts of
the world, the emergence of new markets as in
Eastern Europe and the much awaited ASEAN Free
Trade Area would open up tremendous opportunities
of growth for the Company. The years ahead will
demand a continual rethinking, regrouping and
reorganisation for greater competitive efficiency
but the mainstay of our corporate mission would
remain the same - To Serve.
